The Right Skin Care Treatments for You

Gina (owner of Professional Skin Care Lab) was interviewed by Nicole Da Silva on 5FM in December, speaking about the importance of skin care regimes. If you are a regular at the Lab, you’ll have heard some of this before, but Gina and Nicole chatted about various treatments that can provide the kind of results you seek.

Below are some key take outs from the session:

Sun damage – prevention is better than cure

“Use sun screen every day, from a very young age.”

“80% of sun damage is done before you are 18 years old.”

“Fundamentals are very important – from the age of 9 or 10, good skin products should be used.”

Darker skins and pigmentation

“Sun block is not only for white people … darker skins do get sun damage.”

Heat exposure

“Chefs come in for treatment of damaged skin caused by the heat from ovens and stoves – more and more sunscreens are starting to have heat shock protein protectors in them.”

Scar treatment

“You’re never going to get rid of it, but we can minimise it … we use peels and micro-needling, as well as IPL and Plasma Pen to flatten the scar – we use a product called Scar Repair as a home care treatment.”

Peels

“I like to clean the skin [removing the top layer of dead skin cells] before I do micro-needling so that my products can penetrate better.”

Micro-needling

“Micro-needling creates little channels in the skin, which help to increase product penetration and stimulate the skins many cells and layers to create new collagen and elastin fibres.”

PRP – rejuvenation

“We use this a lot with micro-needling – a doctor or nursing sister would take a vial of your blood and spin off the plasma, which I use as my gliding medium with the micro-needling.”

“We combine the plasma with various ingredients to target specific issues – I’m like a mad scientist!”

Extractions

“I use a device called a Lamprobe, which uses a microwave current to desiccate inside the follicle, to loosen it so I can extract.”

“With peels, micro-needling and plasma you actually cause a controlled injury, which entices the skin’s natural healing process that causes new collagen and elastin to be stimulated.”
