One of our clients sought treatment for a facial burn, on the chin and lips, sustained from hot water. We recommended a combined use of a locally made product, called Wound Occlusive, from Biomedical; and therapy sessions using the Celluma Light Treatment. The time from start of treatment to end was two weeks.
The client, a white female in her thirties, sustained burns to her lower lip and chin, when drinking from a flask while driving. Shortly after the incident, she was able to apply Burn Shield, and thereafter obtained over-the-counter creams for burn treatment. Concerned about long term scarring, she contacted the team at the Professional Skin Care Lab, who started a treatment protocol spanning two weeks.
Using a product made by BioMedical Emporium, called Wound Occlusive read more here, the patient applied the hydrogel to the affected areas several times a day.
The application of this healing product was combined with six sessions of red Celluma Light treatments, broken down into 3 x 30-minute sessions a week, on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for two weeks.
By the third session, the scabs had come off, so the Biomedical product Skin Repair Serum shop now, was used in conjunction with Wound Occlusive. By the end of the 6th session, the skin was completely healed, see below:

With more evidence and data supporting the beneficial claims associated with the use of honey-based products on wounds emerging in the past few decades, Wound Occlusive is a hydrogel containing 50% honey, zinc, xylitol and hyaluronic acid, among other ingredients.
The product can be used in all phases of wound healing, in a user-friendly manner that will minimise scarring. Honey provides advantageous antibacterial activity against a variety of microorganisms, which provides a solution to the increasing problem of bacterial resistance towards antibiotics.
Characteristics of Wound Occlusive are:
- Aesthetic healing
- Natural debriding properties
- Antiseptic, antimicrobial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
- Enhancer of skin elasticity and restorer of density
- Promoter of rehydration and beneficial for all types of skin disease
LED light therapy is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. It is non-invasive, painless, requires no recovery time and can be used on all skin types.
LED Light therapy has been shown to accelerate tissue repair, decrease wound size and accelerate wound closure, as well as reducing pain associated with the healing process. The device is equipped to administer three wavelengths:
- Blue: for acne fighting – diminishing acne bacteria, clearing existing breakouts and restoring healthy skin appearance.
- Red: for pain relieving – reduces inflammation, increases circulation, relieves arthritic, muscle and joint pain, reduces stiffness and muscle spasms.
- Near infra-red: for anti-aging – increases collagen and elastin production, reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin firmness and resilience.
As a complimentary healing process to injuries such as wounds, burns or post-operative surgery, we believe this combination is highly effective in producing very satisfactory results, in an extremely short time span.
We continue to document our treatments with our patient’s permission, in a series of photographs and comments.
